In this blog, I will share my tips for finding fish various waters in Ohio, mostly near Dayton. I will also share my equipment choices and why I use them. Later, I will be doing product reviews. My target species are catfish and carp. However, I do consider myself to be a multi species fisherman. Additionally, I am a self proclaimed river rat.

With extreme changes in weather, finding the patterns that catch fish become tough. I hit my favorite spot on the Great Miami River today. The heat was nearly unbearable. I was fishing near a low dam. I purchased some night crawlers to get started. I also took my castnet along to try and catch my own bait. All I could seem to catch in the net was small shiners. After several throws of the net, I decided to start keeping and using the fish for bait. I caught a small mouth bass using the shiners. It didn't even weigh a pound, but was still a nice catch. I over tossing the castnet when my ultralight pole doubled over. I ran over to pull in a 7 pound carp that took the night crawler that pole was baited with. A little later, I had a nibble and pulled a small channel cat in. As the sun started to go down, I decided to take one of my larger shiners and cut the tail off to try and attract some more channel cats. It worked as I pulled in a channel cat weighing about 2 pounds. Not a big fish, but a catch just the same.
